New Year 2021
Christmas 2021 at the Derby Arms
Celebrate into 2022
Come together with the local community this New Year’s Eve and celebrate the beginning of 2022. Enjoy the best of the region’s beers, a fine selection of wine, spirits and soft drinks (not forgetting our home-produced local juices) and delicious home-cooked food.
We are currently putting the finishing touches to our delicious New Year menus and cannot wait to welcome you to sample our chef’s winter delights. We use fresh, locally sourced produce wherever possible and include vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and smaller portion options. Please advise us of any allergies when ordering.
Live music from Jim Bean
Let the celebrations begin with live music from Jim Bean, a rock/pop covers band with a setlist guaranteed to get you dancing into the night! The talented local musicians cover a strong mix of British and American artists from the 1960s to the present day. With covers from a diverse range of artists including the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the Beatles, David Bowie, Stereophonics and the Artic Monkeys, there really is something for all music lovers.
Pre-Christmas or New Year short breaks
Let us take care of every detail while you escape and unwind. Take time out to recharge with a seasonal short break or night away in our traditional inn with real fires.
After a day of exploring the stunning Lake District in winter, enjoy a relaxing stay in a comfortable room with crisp linen and locally sourced complimentary toiletries. Our full English breakfast, freshly cooked with Cumbrian local produce, is a joy to behold and will really set you up for the day ahead. We recommend pairing it with a good coffee or our locally produced fruit juice from Witherslack Orchards.
Why not play Santa Paws and treat your best friend to a winter getaway? We understand what it means for dog lovers to be able to holiday with their pet. So, when we say we provide dog friendly accommodation, we really mean it.

Things to do in the Lake District in winter
Winter in the Lake District National Park is an incredibly special time of year. You can enjoy beautiful scenery without the hustle and bustle of summer crowds and experience dark, starry skies on clear nights. It can be hard to leave the warmth of the log fires in our snug bar area but for those of a more active persuasion, there is plenty on offer!
Steeped in history, the Derby Arms is situated just off the A590, to the southwest of Kendal and four miles northeast of the town of Grange over Sands. Nestled under Whitbarrow Scar, the pub is the perfect starting point for walking and cycling – a fantastic way to explore the area.
A short car journey away are the shores of Lake Windermere and the shops, cafes and attractions of Bowness-on-Windermere. Why not check out the array of winter openings and events at nearby Holker Hall or the Lakeland Motor Museum?
