Sustainability & community
Rooted in Witherslack
Sustainability and community are at the heart of everything we do here at The Derby Arms.
A village pub, saved
Part of village life, for good
The Derby Arms was purchased from Punch Taverns by the Witherslack Community Land Trust, and the Ainscough family then took over the lease to preserve it as part of Witherslack life. Part of the pub was converted into the village shop, run by the community with community shareholders.
In 2021 the Ainscough and Stanley families partnered to continue to drive our offering and support the local elements of The Derby Arms, with a focus on our food, our outside areas and community events.

We love local produce
Fresher, tastier, closer to home
As part of a local, rural community in the Lake District, the environment and the stunning landscape mean everything to us. We are passionate about protecting it for future generations by minimising our carbon footprint and using resources more responsibly.
We are dedicated to sourcing high quality local and seasonal products from Cumbria. Keeping it local means we can champion food producers from our surrounding area. These people are part of our community and help strengthen our local economy and conserve our countryside. It also means our food is fresher and tastier for our guests.
Our promise
Committing to sustainability for future generations
We believe it is our responsibility to look after our planet and minimise our impact on the environment.
Sourcing local food where possible, using seasonal produce, recycling and reducing waste are at the top of our list. Every day we strive to improve by supporting local suppliers and making a difference in our local community.
